The Daviess County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 50-year-old Amanda John of Velpen following a tragic crash Wednesday morning along State Road 57 in the Sandyhook Curve area.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a report around 11:27 a.m. involving a vehicle that had struck a guardrail near County Road 575 South. Investigators say Amanda John was driving a white 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on State Road 57 when, for reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle left the west side of the roadway, collided with a guardrail, and came to rest in a deep ditch.
Despite emergency responders rushing to the scene, Amanda John was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that her family has been notified as loved ones begin facing the unimaginable pain of this sudden and tragic loss.
The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine exactly what led to the devastating accident.
Several agencies responded and assisted at the scene, including the Veale Township Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Daviess County Ambulance Service, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, and Countryside Wrecker Service.
