In Loving Memory of Shalimar Green and Aliv’eyah Chandler

The Columbus community is mourning the heartbreaking and tragic loss of 33-year-old Shalimar Green and her beloved 11-year-old daughter, Aliv’eyah Chandler, whose lives were taken far too soon inside their East Side home Wednesday evening. Their passing has left family members, friends, classmates, neighbors, and loved ones devastated as they struggle to process an unimaginable tragedy that has shaken the entire community.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers responded to a well-being check around 7:10 p.m. at a home located in the 2900 block of Chatsworth Way. Before emergency responders arrived, a relative discovered Shalimar and young Aliv’eyah deceased inside the residence. Authorities later described the incident as a domestic-related double homicide.

Court documents revealed that both mother and daughter suffered gunshot wounds as well as stab wounds. Detectives investigating the scene reportedly recovered spent shell casings and a bloody knife from inside the home. Police later identified 33-year-old Derrick Green, Shalimar’s husband, as the suspect in the killings. Authorities said he fled the residence before officers arrived but was later taken into custody by SWAT officers without incident and charged with murder.

While investigators continue working to determine all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, the focus for many throughout Columbus remains on remembering the beautiful lives of Shalimar and Aliv’eyah — a loving mother and daughter whose bond touched so many around them.

Shalimar Green is being remembered as a devoted mother who deeply loved her daughter and cared tremendously for her family. Friends describe her as kind-hearted, caring, and someone who always tried to uplift those around her. Her love for Aliv’eyah was evident in everything she did, and those who knew her say her greatest joy in life was being a mother.

Young Aliv’eyah Chandler’s loss has especially impacted the Groveport Madison school community, where she was a student. Teachers, classmates, and loved ones are grieving the loss of a bright young girl remembered for her smile, energy, and the promise she carried for the future. Her life, though far too short, left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

As family and friends gather to mourn this devastating loss, many are also reflecting on the larger issue of domestic violence and the irreversible pain it can bring to families and communities.
