Aung Htoo, 17, Dies Following Omaha Shooting Near 48th and Nicholas Street

OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha Police have identified the victim killed in a shooting early Wednesday morning as 17-year-old Aung Htoo. A second victim, identified as 18-year-old Manish Gurung, remains in critical condition as investigators continue working to determine what led to the deadly incident.

According to the Omaha Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 1:00 a.m. near 48th and Nicholas Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Authorities said Aung Htoo was pronounced dead at the scene. Omaha Fire Department medics transported Manish Gurung to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he continues to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries.

The shooting has left family members, friends, and community members searching for answers as investigators work to piece together the events that unfolded before the gunfire erupted. The death of a 17-year-old and the critical injury of another young man have deeply impacted those who knew the victims and have raised concerns throughout the community.
