The Alton community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 56-year-old Sweeta Ram, 46-year-old Kamlesh Rani, and 73-year-old Mindeer Kaur, whose lives were tragically taken in a fatal shooting at a residence in the Tuscany Village Subdivision. Their deaths have left family members, friends, neighbors, and the entire community grieving an unimaginable loss as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
According to Alton Police Department Chief Mark Perez, officers responded to a residence at approximately 9:13 p.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance. Upon arriving at the home, officers discovered two victims who had already died. A third victim was found critically injured and was rushed to a local hospital, where the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the individual died from their injuries, bringing the total number of lives lost to three.
On Wednesday afternoon, authorities formally identified the victims as Sweeta Ram, Kamlesh Rani, and Mindeer Kaur. Investigators have not disclosed whether the three victims were related to one another or whether they had any relationship to the suspect.
Police said the suspect fled the residence before officers arrived. A short time later, law enforcement initiated a vehicle pursuit that ended after the suspect crashed near the intersection of 4 Mile Line Road and Glasscock Road. Authorities reported that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shooting occurred at a residence in the 3701 block of East Roosevelt Avenue. Throughout the following day, investigators remained at the scene gathering evidence, documenting the property, and interviewing potential witnesses. Officers also canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, speaking with residents who may have information relevant to the investigation. Additional searches were conducted in nearby areas as detectives continued collecting evidence.
Officials have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community and that the scene has been secured. However, investigators continue working to determine what led to the deadly incident. At this time, no motive has been publicly released, and authorities say the investigation remains active.
