IN LOVING MEMORY Aaron Charles Roloff, 22, and Tristan Kyle Nelson, 37, Killed in Separate Iowa Crashes Hours Apart

Two Iowa families are mourning unimaginable loss after separate fatal crashes claimed the lives of two men on Monday, June 15, leaving communities in grief and reminding everyone of how fragile life can be.

Twenty-two-year-old Aaron Charles Roloff of Minden and 37-year-old Tristan Kyle Nelson of Ames lost their lives in unrelated traffic accidents that occurred just hours apart in Pottawattamie and Boone counties, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The first tragedy unfolded at approximately 2:00 p.m. in Boone County, northeast of the city of Boone. Authorities reported that a 2022 Jeep Compass driven by 34-year-old Bailey Jo Craven of Des Moines was traveling westbound on 190th Street when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2020 Kenworth semi-truck operated by 26-year-old Wyatt Robert Corbin of Boone.

The violent impact left the SUV severely damaged before it came to rest on its driver’s side in a ditch along the roadway. The semi-truck jackknifed across the road, blocking both lanes of traffic. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, passenger Tristan Kyle Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bailey Jo Craven was airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for treatment. Authorities noted that both occupants of the Jeep were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

Only a few hours later, another devastating accident occurred in Pottawattamie County. At approximately 4:30 p.m., Aaron Charles Roloff was traveling eastbound on Interstate 880 in a 2021 Subaru Legacy when the vehicle left the roadway.

According to investigators, the Subaru struck a bridge railing on the westbound side of the interstate before becoming airborne. The vehicle then plunged below the bridge, landing on the bank of Mosquito Creek before ultimately coming to rest upside down in the water.

First responders arrived quickly, but Roloff was found deceased inside the vehicle. The heartbreaking discovery marked another life lost on Iowa roadways in a matter of hours.

Friends, family members, and loved ones are now left to mourn the sudden and tragic passing of two men whose lives ended far too soon. While details surrounding both crashes continue to be examined by investigators, the impact of these losses is already being felt deeply by those who knew and loved them.

Aaron Charles Roloff is remembered as a young man with a future full of promise, while Tristan Kyle Nelson leaves behind family, friends, and a community grieving the loss of someone whose presence touched many lives. Their memories will continue to live on in the hearts of those who shared in their journeys.

As Iowa State Patrol troopers continue their investigations into both crashes, many are taking a moment to reflect on the importance of road safety and the preciousness of every day.

Please keep the families of Aaron Charles Roloff and Tristan Kyle Nelson in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time as they navigate the pain of these tragic and unexpected losses.

Forever remembered. Forever missed.
