TEMPLE, Texas — Authorities have identified the young woman who lost her life in a tragic three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at a busy Temple intersection.
According to the Temple Police Department, the victim has been identified as Abigail Akers, 21, of Moffat, Texas. The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Airport Road and Westfield Boulevard and remains under active investigation.
Officers were dispatched to the crash scene at approximately 2:58 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a serious traffic accident involving multiple vehicles. When emergency responders arrived, they found three heavily damaged vehicles and immediately began rendering aid to those involved.
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that one of the vehicles crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with two other vehicles. The impact created a chaotic and devastating scene, prompting a significant emergency response and the closure of portions of the roadway while authorities worked to investigate the crash.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Abigail Akers suffered fatal injuries. Justice of the Peace Larry Wilkey pronounced her dead at the scene. The tragic loss of the 21-year-old has left family members, friends, and members of the community mourning a life that ended far too soon.
