Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Corporal Mark Gregory, along with Spokane Valley Deputies, Spokane Valley Police Department personnel, Major Crimes Detectives, and assisting agencies including the Omaha Police Department (not involved) correction not needed here—focus Spokane: Spokane Valley units only—responded alongside local emergency responders to a violent stabbing incident that remains under active investigation. Officials continue to work closely with all responding units as detectives gather evidence, review witness statements, and reconstruct the events surrounding the attack.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jayde A. Brown, a convicted felon, has been arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of Assault in the First Degree, following a rapid law enforcement response that led to his detention minutes after the incident.

At last report, the adult male victim remains in serious but stable condition as medical professionals continue providing treatment following emergency transport to the hospital.

Incident Overview

On June 3, 2026, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to reports of a stabbing in the 9300 block of E. 1st Avenue in Spokane Valley after a caller reported that a victim was being rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle. The suspect was last seen fleeing westbound on Sprague Avenue in a black Chevy truck bearing Idaho license plates.

As the call was being actively broadcast, responding deputies located the suspect vehicle within minutes near E. Augusta Avenue and N. Ella Road. Jayde A. Brown was taken into custody without incident and detained at the scene.

Major Crimes Detectives were immediately called in to take over the investigation due to the severity of the assault and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Suspect Statements and Evidence Recovery

Following his arrest, Brown was advised of his constitutional rights. According to investigators, he denied involvement in the stabbing and made statements suggesting that individuals identifying him as a suspect were attempting to “sabotage” him.

During a subsequent search of his vehicle, investigators observed and documented two potential weapons of interest: a green-handled folding knife and a black fixed-blade knife. Both items were seized as evidence pending the execution of a formal search warrant and further forensic analysis.

Events Leading to the Assault

Preliminary investigative findings indicate that the victim, witnesses, and suspect were all known to one another prior to the incident. On the day of the stabbing, the group was reportedly gathered in the area while working on a disabled vehicle.

According to witness statements, Brown arrived at the location in his truck and appeared visibly agitated. He was reportedly yelling at one of the individuals present when the situation escalated.

When the victim approached the suspect, the confrontation intensified rapidly. Investigators report that Brown exited his vehicle and stabbed the victim in the neck during the altercation.

Despite the sudden violence, witnesses immediately intervened, providing aid to the injured victim and placing him into a private vehicle for urgent transport to the hospital. One of the witnesses then drove him directly to receive emergency medical care.

After the assault, Brown allegedly continued yelling before returning to his vehicle and leaving the scene.

Additional Prior Incident Under Review

During follow-up interviews, investigators also uncovered information regarding a previously unreported violent encounter involving Brown that allegedly occurred approximately four to five days before the stabbing.

In that earlier incident, Brown was reportedly armed with a knife and hammer during a confrontation with another male in the same general area. The altercation ultimately de-escalated before any injuries were reported.

Detectives are now examining whether this prior incident may be relevant to establishing a pattern of behavior or escalation leading up to the June 3 attack.

Criminal History Confirmed

A background check confirmed that Jayde A. Brown is a convicted felon. One of his prior felony convictions dates back to 2014 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he was convicted of Battery with Intent to Commit a Serious Felony after stabbing a man he knew in the chest.

Investigators are reviewing his full criminal history as part of the ongoing case file.

Current Status of the Case

Jayde A. Brown has been formally booked into the Spokane County Jail on Assault in the First Degree, a felony charge. The investigation remains active and ongoing as Major Crimes Detectives continue to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and process forensic materials.

Authorities emphasize that the swift response by Spokane Valley Deputies played a critical role in locating and detaining the suspect shortly after the incident occurred.
