According to officials, the incident began earlier that day when the Okoboji Police Department responded to Edgewater Plaza after receiving a report of a missing person. Officers and emergency personnel began an immediate search of the area as concern grew for the missing individual’s safety.
At approximately 5:37 p.m., a person walking along the docks at Edgewater Plaza made a tragic discovery, reporting that a person had been found in the water. Once it was confirmed that the situation involved a potential water rescue, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office assumed command of the investigation and response.
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and recovery efforts began. Despite the rapid response and coordinated rescue attempts, the situation resulted in a fatal outcome.
