In Loving Memory of Marshaun Williams

With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of Marshaun Williams, a 32-year-old from Carbondale, whose life was tragically cut short following a shooting in the early morning hours of June 19.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers were called at approximately 12:53 a.m. to the 200 block of West Jackson Street after reports of a gunshot victim. When they arrived, they found Williams suffering from life-threatening injuries in a parking lot. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff worked tirelessly to save his life. Despite those efforts and the determination of first responders, Marshaun later passed away.

News of his death has left family, friends, and members of the Carbondale community in profound grief. At just 32 years old, Marshaun’s life ended far too soon, leaving behind memories that will now be cherished even more deeply by those who knew and loved him.

Authorities also confirmed that a second man, 51-year-old Brent Battles, was injured in the incident and remains in stable condition while in police custody. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing personal dispute, and officials have stated there is no ongoing danger to the public as the investigation continues.

While law enforcement works to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, those closest to Marshaun are left to reflect on the man behind the headlines—a son, a friend, and a valued member of his community.

Grief now echoes through the lives of those who shared moments, laughter, and everyday memories with him. His absence leaves a painful void that cannot be easily filled.

As Carbondale comes to terms with this heartbreaking loss, Marshaun Williams is remembered not for the circumstances of his passing, but for the life he lived and the people he impacted along the way. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him, even as they navigate the difficult days ahead.
