Ryan Willis McFarland Identified in Muscatine Multiple Homicide Investigation Involving Four Victims and Subsequent Fatal Self-Inflicted Shooting

The Muscatine Police Department is actively investigating a series of connected homicide incidents involving Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, Iowa, that occurred on Monday, June 1, 2026, across multiple locations within the city.

At approximately 12:12 p.m., MUSCOM received a report of a shooting at 210 Park Avenue in Muscatine, Iowa. Officers from the Muscatine Police Department, along with emergency medical personnel, responded immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered four victims inside the residence. Each victim had sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The scene was secured, and investigators immediately began processing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.

The adult male suspect was no longer present when law enforcement arrived. He was later identified as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, Iowa. Following an immediate area search, officers located McFarland on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. He was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Emergency medical personnel and officers rendered aid at the scene; however, McFarland was later pronounced deceased.

During the early stages of the investigation, additional information emerged suggesting there may be further related victims. As a result, officers conducted follow-up checks at additional locations.

Investigators subsequently located an adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 1509 Mill Street in Muscatine. In a further development, officers also responded to a business located at 808 Grandview Avenue, where they discovered another adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Preliminary findings indicate that the shootings stemmed from a domestic-related dispute. At this time, all victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect, Ryan Willis McFarland. Investigators continue to work to confirm relationships and fully establish the circumstances surrounding each incident.

The Muscatine Police Department is being assisted in this ongoing investigation by the Muscatine Fire Department, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Officials emphasize that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives are continuing to process multiple crime scenes, review physical and digital evidence, and conduct interviews with witnesses and individuals connected to the case.
