The Normandy Estates community is grieving an overwhelming tragedy after three lives were tragically lost in a violent incident that has left loved ones, neighbors, and the entire area in shock and mourning. Savannah Barber, Edwin Barber, and Shad Cole were all taken far too soon during a deadly stabbing incident in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 28, leaving behind heartbroken families and countless memories that will never fade.
According to investigators, officers responded around 3 a.m. after reports of a man desperately knocking on a neighbor’s door seeking help. When authorities arrived, they found 49-year-old Edwin Barber suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Despite his severe injuries, Edwin managed to flee his home in an attempt to alert others and find assistance during what would become one of the community’s most devastating nights.
As officers continued searching the area, they entered Edwin’s residence and discovered 27-year-old Savannah Barber inside a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. Tragically, she passed away before emergency crews could save her. During a search of nearby homes, officers also located 37-year-old Shad Cole on the porch of another residence suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Edwin Barber was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts.
The heartbreaking and violent loss of these three individuals has deeply shaken the Normandy Estates community. Families now face unimaginable grief, while friends and neighbors struggle to come to terms with a tragedy that unfolded so suddenly and changed so many lives forever.
Savannah Barber is being remembered as a vibrant young woman whose life was filled with hopes, dreams, and meaningful relationships. At only 27 years old, she had so much more life ahead of her. Those closest to her will forever cherish her laughter, kindness, and the special moments she shared with the people she loved.
Edwin Barber’s final actions reflected tremendous courage and determination as he fought to survive and sought help despite suffering critical injuries. Loved ones remember Edwin as someone deeply valued by family, friends, and the community around him. His passing leaves behind profound sorrow and an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Shad Cole is also being mourned by many who knew and cared for him. At 37 years old, his life ended far too soon, leaving family and friends devastated by the painful loss. Those who loved Shad now hold tightly to the memories they created together and the impact he made during his life.
Authorities later identified 30-year-old Austin Fisher as the suspect in the killings. Following an extensive investigation led by the Homicide Unit and aided by tips from the community, law enforcement officers located Fisher hiding at a motel in the Normandy Village area. After a lengthy standoff involving the Community Problem Response Unit and SWAT Team, he was taken into custody and booked into the Duval County jail, where he now faces charges related to the deaths of Savannah Barber, Edwin Barber, and Shad Cole.
Although an arrest has been made, it does little to ease the heartbreak experienced by the victims’ loved ones or heal the pain caused by such devastating violence. The emotional impact of this tragedy will remain with the community for years to come.
As family members, friends, and neighbors continue to mourn, many are leaning on one another for comfort and support during this difficult time. Tragedies like this serve as painful reminders of how fragile life truly is and how important love, compassion, and unity are in times of grief.
