Louisville Metro Police are continuing to investigate a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 27-year-old Kevonte White in west Louisville on Saturday afternoon.
According to authorities, officers responded at approximately 4:26 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 4400 block of West Broadway, an area near South 44th Street between the Chickasaw and Shawnee neighborhoods. When police arrived, they located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders provided immediate aid at the scene before transporting the victim to UofL Hospital. Despite medical efforts, the man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Kevonte White.
As of the latest update, Louisville Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Officials confirmed that no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. Detectives are currently working to reconstruct the events leading up to the shooting, including reviewing any available surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses and speaking with potential witnesses in the area.
The shooting has added another layer of concern for residents in west Louisville, where community members say violent incidents continue to impact neighborhoods already dealing with ongoing safety challenges. Many in the area were shaken by the sudden nature of the incident, which unfolded in the middle of a busy Saturday afternoon.
Authorities have not released a possible motive and have not indicated whether the victim was specifically targeted or if the shooting was random. Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual around the time of the incident to come forward.
