Authorities have confirmed that the remains of 18-year-old Jonis Warren of St. Tammany Parish have been recovered following an extensive search operation on the Bogue Chitto River.
The tragic discovery comes after emergency responders spent hours searching the river after receiving reports that a young man had disappeared beneath the water while tubing and failed to resurface.
According to officials, the incident began at approximately 1:44 p.m. when the communications center received a 911 call reporting that an individual had gone underwater while tubing on the Bogue Chitto River. Witnesses at the scene stated that the victim submerged and did not come back to the surface, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Deputies, volunteers from the District Six and District Eight Fire Departments, and EMTs from Northshore Ambulance quickly responded to the area. Search efforts were further supported by Mark Michaud of Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery, who utilized specialized diving and sonar equipment to assist in locating the missing teen.
After an intensive search, authorities successfully recovered the remains of Jonis Warren. The coroner has since received the remains, and officials have notified the family of the heartbreaking outcome.
Law enforcement and emergency officials expressed their gratitude to the many agencies, volunteers, and first responders who dedicated their time and resources to the search operation.
