The Jefferson Parish community is also reflecting on the tragic and deeply unsettling death of 30-year-old Kody Woodson, whose life ended in a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a fatal domestic incident in Elmwood.
Authorities with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident began Thursday morning at the Palmetto Creek apartment complex on Citrus Boulevard, where Woodson’s ex-wife, Meridian Woodson, was found deceased inside her apartment. Investigators later located Kody Woodson a short distance away in a parking lot at a nearby shopping center, inside a pickup truck where he had sustained what officials described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
According to preliminary information released by investigators, the couple had recently finalized their divorce. While the full circumstances surrounding the events remain under investigation, authorities have not released additional details regarding what led up to the incident or whether prior documented domestic issues existed between the two.
As the investigation continues, officials have emphasized that this remains an active and ongoing case, and further updates may be provided as new information becomes available.
The situation has left both families and the wider community grappling with grief and unanswered questions, as two lives have now been lost in a single tragic chain of events that unfolded in a matter of minutes.
In reflecting on this incident, authorities continue to urge awareness around domestic conflict situations and the importance of seeking help and intervention before situations escalate into irreversible tragedy.
In loving memory of Kody Woodson — a life now ended, leaving behind sorrow, unanswered questions, and a community left to process a profoundly difficult loss.
