The Columbus community is mourning the tragic loss of Tywan Horton, 26, who died following a devastating crash in east Columbus during the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 9.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:10 a.m. on East Livingston Avenue near the intersection with South Yearling Road. Investigators reported that Horton was driving a 2007 Ford Fusion eastbound on East Livingston Avenue when the crash unfolded.
Police say Horton approached the intersection and failed to stop at a red traffic signal. His vehicle subsequently struck the rear driver’s side of a 2020 Ford Fusion that had entered the roadway from the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. The impact set off a chain of events that would end in tragedy.
Following the collision, Horton’s vehicle continued across the westbound lanes of East Livingston Avenue before leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree located in front of a nearby residence. The force of the impact was severe, and Horton was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and provided aid before transporting Horton to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m.
Authorities confirmed that no other injuries were reported as a result of the crash. The occupants of the second vehicle were not seriously harmed, though the incident remains a traumatic experience for all involved.
