LAPLACE, La. — The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old LaPlace resident on Monday evening.
Authorities identified the victim as Omarion Ingram of LaPlace, who was found dead several hours after reports of gunfire were received in the area.
According to investigators, deputies with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Cinclair Loop at approximately 7:20 p.m. on June 15, 2026, following reports of shots being fired. When officers arrived, they located evidence indicating that a shooting had occurred, including multiple shell casings found near an alleyway.
As detectives processed the scene and began gathering information, a relative of Omarion Ingram contacted authorities and reported concerns about the teenager’s whereabouts. Family members told investigators that Ingram was believed to have been in the area around the time the gunfire occurred and may have been involved in an altercation shortly before the shooting. Relatives also informed deputies that they had been unable to reach him despite repeated attempts.
Investigators continued canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing potential witnesses and searching nearby areas for additional evidence. As the investigation expanded, deputies searched locations surrounding the reported shooting scene in hopes of locating the missing teen.
At approximately 10:08 p.m., officers made a tragic discovery. While canvassing the area, deputies located the body of an unresponsive male in a field near the former Winn-Dixie grocery store. The victim was later identified as Omarion Ingram. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and authorities have not yet released information regarding potential suspects, arrests, or a possible motive. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and review information that may help determine exactly what led to the deadly incident.
The death of the teenager has shocked many residents in the LaPlace community, where violent crimes involving young victims often leave lasting impacts on families and neighborhoods. Investigators are working to piece together the events that unfolded between the initial reports of gunfire and the discovery of Ingram’s body.
