POWELL COUNTY, Ky. — Heartbreak spread across Powell County Tuesday evening after a weather-related accident on KY 213 claimed the life of 19-year-old Luke Pierce, leaving family members, friends, and community members mourning a young life taken far too soon.
Authorities confirmed the victim as Luke Pierce, according to Powell County Coroner Megan Wells-Curtis. News of his sudden death has brought deep sorrow to those who knew and loved him as they struggle to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
According to preliminary information released by officials, the fatal collision occurred during the evening hours along KY 213 amid hazardous weather conditions. Investigators stated that the vehicle hydroplaned on the rain-slick roadway, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle left the road and traveled over an embankment.
Hydroplaning remains one of the most dangerous risks motorists can encounter during severe weather conditions. When water accumulates on roadways, tires can lose contact with the surface, making steering and braking extremely difficult.
