ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina community is mourning the tragic loss of Charlie Shuler after a devastating collision involving a tractor-trailer claimed his life Sunday evening, leaving family, friends, and loved ones grieving an unexpected and heartbreaking loss.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday near South Carolina Highway 6 and Tee Vee Road in Orangeburg County. Authorities said a 2018 Dodge sedan was traveling south on Tee Vee Road while a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling west along Highway 6.
Preliminary information released by troopers indicates that the driver of the Dodge sedan attempted to make a left turn onto South Carolina Highway 6 when the vehicle was struck by the tractor-trailer. The impact resulted in severe damage and prompted an immediate emergency response to the scene.
Officials confirmed that Charlie Shuler, 42, of Santee, was the sole occupant of the sedan. Tragically, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained injuries and was transported by EMS for treatment. Authorities have not released further information regarding that individual’s condition.
As investigators continue working to determine all circumstances surrounding the collision, those who knew Charlie are now facing the painful reality of life without him. The sudden loss of a loved one often leaves behind a silence that words struggle to fill, and for family and friends, the days ahead will likely be marked by grief, remembrance, and reflection.
While official reports provide the facts surrounding an incident, they cannot fully tell the story of a person’s life—the moments shared with family, the friendships built over the years, the laughter, the memories, and the presence that becomes impossible to replace after loss.
Charlie’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who loved him. Every life leaves an imprint, and those closest to him will carry forward the memories, lessons, and moments they shared throughout the years.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, and no additional details have been released at this time.
As the Santee and Orangeburg communities mourn this tragedy, many are keeping Charlie Shuler’s family and loved ones in their thoughts during an incredibly difficult time. Though his life ended far too soon, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
