ATOKA COUNTY, OK — The community is mourning the loss of 77-year-old Charles Lanig of Caney, who died Wednesday morning following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Atoka County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Troopers report that the crash occurred at approximately 11:26 a.m. along Voca Road. Investigators say Lanig was traveling westbound when, for reasons still being examined, his vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle then struck a cement culvert and subsequently rolled before coming to a stop off the roadway.
Authorities confirmed that Lanig was ejected from the vehicle during the violent impact. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but despite their efforts, he was tragically pronounced dead from his injuries.
