According to the Hickory Police Department, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. on 13th Avenue Drive SE in Hickory. Investigators said Scovern was riding a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound when a 2025 MINI Cooper turned left out of the parking lot of the Hampton Inn and entered the roadway, also traveling west. The motorcycle subsequently struck the rear of the MINI Cooper.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and rushed Scovern to Frye Regional Medical Center, where medical teams did everything they could to save his life. Despite their efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
As officers continued their investigation, they determined that excessive speed by the motorcycle was a contributing factor in the collision. As of Friday, June 19, authorities stated that no charges had been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to examine every aspect of the crash.
