IN LOVING MEMORY Colleen Dunn Remembered After Tragic McCracken County Crash

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a report involving a missing woman, later identified as 45-year-old Colleen Dunn of Melber.

According to officials, the investigation revealed that Dunn had not been seen or heard from since earlier that morning. Concern quickly grew among family members, prompting immediate coordination with law enforcement. Deputies and Dunn’s loved ones began working together, utilizing available digital resources in an effort to trace her possible location and determine her last known movements.

In addition to technological tracking efforts, deputies and family members began physically checking areas where Dunn was believed to have last been traveling. The combined search effort reflected the urgency of the situation and the close cooperation between the Sheriff’s Office and the community.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., those efforts came to a tragic conclusion when Dunn and her vehicle were located in a deep ravine in the St. Johns area of McCracken County, off Old U.S. Highway 45. Authorities reported that preliminary evidence indicates Dunn was involved in a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision in which her vehicle left the roadway and overturned in the ravine.

Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, but despite rapid response efforts, Dunn was pronounced deceased at the scene by McCracken County Coroner Amanda Melton.

Multiple agencies assisted with the recovery and scene management, including Mercy Regional Ambulance, the Lone Oak Fire Department, McCracken County DES, Harper’s Towing, and Coroner Amanda Melton. Their coordinated response helped ensure the area was secured and that recovery operations were handled with care and professionalism.

Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing as deputies continue to review evidence surrounding the circumstances of the crash. At this stage, no further details have been released regarding potential contributing factors such as road conditions, speed, or mechanical issues.

Chief Deputy Ryan P. Willcutt extended condolences to the family, asking the public to keep Dunn’s loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. He noted that cases involving missing persons who are later found in fatal accidents are especially difficult for both families and responders, given the sudden transition from hope to heartbreak.

As investigators continue their work, authorities are expected to release additional information if and when it becomes available.
